The local area offers swimming lakes with beaches, possibilities for aquatic sport, various historic sights (Richard the Lionheart route) and excellent restaurant and cafes offering regional dishes (truffles from Sorges) in the area. It takes 30 to 45 minutes to drive to Périgueux, Brantome or Limoges.

SARLATAncheyra is perfectly situated to explore the heritage of the region, with its medieval villages and cities such as Limoges, Périgueux (Cathédrale St Front) and Sarlat (Cité Médiévale), castles (Jumilhac-le-Grand, Puyguilhelm and Hautefort), prehistoric caves (Grottes de Villars and Lascaux), weekly markets and wine markets (Bergerac).

SARRAZACOur local village of Sarrazac is a 2 minute drive away (or 20 minute stroll) and offers a small general store, a post office, two bars and a restaurant.

The larger village of Jumilhac Le Grand, only a 10 minute drive away, boasts a magnificent château, two cafes/bars, a boucherie, a small supermarket, a post office and boulangerie where you can buy your freshly baked loaves, baguettes and croissants. CHATEAU JUMILHAC-LE-GRANDIt is also within easy reach of watersports facilities, swimming lakes (Rouffiac) and rivers (canoeing at Brantome). There are two golf courses within an hour's drive near Limoges and Périgueux. In addition there are opportunities for cycling, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, roller blading, surfing, tennis, walking, water skiing, wind surfing and rock climbing.

THIVIERS Thiviers, our local town is known as the Foie Gras capital and is a 20 minute drive away. The local cuisine includes Limousin beef, foie gras, duck, walnuts and apples. Thiviers has 4 good size supermarkets. THIVIERS GEESE The Saturday morning market at Thiviers is not to be missed with its huge variety of fresh food, vegetables, flowers, clothes, wine, cheeses and fish and live music. Fishing permits are available in Thiviers at the local fishing tackle shop on the RN 21 road. Trout is only one of a number of fish that may be caught and which are kept well stocked by local enthusiasts.

PERIGUEUX Périgueux (capital of the Dordogne) is very interesting and beautiful and has a good selection of shops. The market days are Wednesday and Saturday (mornings). There is a good choice of cafes and restaurants and many serve a three course lunch from about 12 euros.
It has become famous around the world not just because of its history but for the gastronomic specialities, notably truffles, foie gras, honey and liqueurs. There is much to see and do such as the St-Front district; the cathedral; Musée du Périgord and the twice-weekly market that covers most of the central boulevards and pedestrian quarter.


ST JEAN DE COLESt Jean de Cole is one of the most beautiful sites of the region, nestled in the lush hills between Limoges and Périgueux on the road from Thiviers to Brantome. This little village in Périgord is an amazing architectural masterpiece. It owns the title of 'finest roofs in France' and is renowned as one of the most beautiful villages in France. There are several good restaurants.

LAKE ROUFFIACThe property is situated within a 15 minute drive of Lake Rouffiac. Its many facilities include a sandy beach, swimming, water skiing, sailing, tennis, climbing walls and restaurants. Perfect for young children or teenagers.

GROTTE DE VILLARS The Grotte de Villars caves are a maze of tunnels running about 13 kms and form the largest network in the Périgord. As well as spectacular examples of stalactites and stalagmites, they contain fine examples of Aurignacian paintings, including bison, antelopes and witches.


BRANTOMEOther attractions are horse racing at Pompadour, the magnificent châteaux at Hautefort and Jumilhac le Grande, St. Jean de Cole - which holds the official accolade of being one of the 'Plus Beaux Villages de France' - and the picturesque town of Brantome known as 'Little Venice'.

During the summer months there are many night markets and wine and antique fairs. We are also within easy travelling distance of the wine growing regions of Bergerac and Bordeaux.
